CSMA’s Mohr Gallery Presents Shadow Boxes by Raquel Coelho

Opening reception and artist talk on Friday, February 12, 6-8 pm

The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) at Finn Center in Mountain View presents Shadow Boxes, A 3-D Illustrated History of Theatre by Raquel Coelho. Works will be on exhibit in CSMA’s Mohr Gallery from February 12 through March 28, 2010, with an opening reception and artist talk on Friday, February 12, 6-8 pm.

Using the history of theatre as its theme, the exhibition will present the artist’s unique collection of dioramas and shadow boxes to tell the story. Amazing puppets and beautifully created scenery will take the viewer on a voyage of discovery to the most important historical moments in the art and evolution of theatre. The shadow boxes on display are hand made in redwood, using antique hardware bought from an antique hardware store in New York.

Raquel Coelho is a Brazilian writer and illustrator of children’s books. Her whimsical illustrations are made using found objects and hand made puppets and have received many prestigious awards in Brazil. Illustrations of the dioramas and shadow boxes on exhibition in Mohr Gallery were previously published as a book in Brazil.
