CSMA Holds Open House on Sunday, August 21

The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) will hold an Open House on Sunday, August 21, 2011, 10 am-1 pm. The free event will offer live music performances, instrument demonstrations, visual and digital art presentations, faculty Q&A, on-site registration, facility tours, refreshments and more. The event will be held at CSMA’s Finn Center campus in Mountain View.

“At our annual Open House we share what we mean when we say that CSMA is the home of Arts for All,” said CSMA marketing and communications director John Williams. “As a nonprofit community resource, CSMA offers opportunities to be engaged and inspired by the arts all year round. Whether it is through enrollment in private music lessons or art classes or through attendance at a free concert or exhibition, our commitment is to make the arts accessible to everyone, regardless of age, level or economic means.”

CSMA faculty and staff will be available throughout the event to answer questions and to talk with attendees about the school’s arts education curriculum and many courses, including 20 new classes. “For the first time this fall we are offering Intro to Ukulele, starting with a class for ages 4-6, as well as classes for youth and teens/adults,” said Schiffman. Other new classes include Got Glee?, Young Architects, Digital Creations, and Musical Adventures for Families for parents/caregivers and children as young as 18 months. Registration for private music lessons, classes and camps will be available.

Instrument demonstrations (including ukulele!), visual and digital art presentations by faculty, and facility tours of CSMA’s Finn Center campus will be on-going throughout the day. “Open House is also a chance for our students to share their accomplishments with a live audience,” said Schiffman, noting that there will be music performances in Tateuchi Hall by CSMA’s talented young Merit Scholar students. Attendees can also see Elements of Fire, a ceramic art exhibition in Mohr Gallery presenting works by faculty artists Gabe Toci and Jonathan Huang.
