The Community School of Music and Arts is seeking a motivated Development Director to be responsible for all fundraising activities including donor cultivation, solicitation, acquisition, recognition and stewardship. Will report to the Executive Director.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
- Work with CSMA’s leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy and evaluate its success
- Execute a successful annual giving program which meets Annual Fund goals (currently $1,350,000)
- Oversee and support a growing Development Department, working to redefine operational dynamics in marketing and advocacy toward Institutional Advancement
- Manage a Development staff including an Institutional Grants Officer, Individual Gifts Officer and Development Associate (approx. 2.5 FTE)
- Guide the work of the Board’s Fund Development Committee; motivate, support and coach board members and volunteers in building philanthropic connections and making solicitations
- Create effective and powerful development marketing materials in collaboration with CSMA’s Marketing and Communications staff
- Research and pursue new strategies to increase contributed income from individual donors and corporate and foundation sources
- Identify new prospects and manage donors through all stages of the giving cycle
- Oversee donor database, gift processing, grant reporting, financial reporting and donor acknowledgement
- Design and oversee an annual series of special Development events including various gatherings, a Donor Appreciation Reception, a Fall Fundraising Party and a Spring Black-tie Gala.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of senior level experience in fundraising, with a minimum of two years in the nonprofit setting required, preferably in an arts-related nonprofit agency
- A proven track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing all types of gifts; executing fundraising campaigns, and motivating a community of to be supporters
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate donors, constituents, staff and volunteers
- Excellent writing skills with ability to communicate in a clear, compelling and concise fashion
- Working knowledge of a range of current fundraising tools and technologies, including donor databases, email marketing and wealth screening
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- A high degree of professionalism, ability to deal effectively with various constituents, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence
- Experience managing a professional staff and leading Board fundraisers
- Preference for candidates with knowledge and experience in the South Bay/ Mid-Peninsula/ Silicon Valley philanthropic communities
- A minimum of a bachelors degree
- A passion for CSMA’s mission of accessible, high quality arts education
