Moy Eng, Executive Director
Moy Eng is known nationally for her work with non-profit organizations devoted to arts and culture. From 2001-2009 she worked as the Program Director, Performing Arts, at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, leading one of the largest arts grantmaking programs in the US. Among her many achievements during her tenure at the Hewlett Foundation, she developed an arts education initiative comprising research, advocacy, and exemplar programs, which led to over $800 million in new public funds for arts education to 6.2 million CA public schoolchildren. This singular effort included: a suite of landmark research studies commissioned from SRI on the state of arts education in California, widely used by educators and policymakers nationally; and an investment to seed California’s PTA’s strategic plan and initial efforts to unite one million parents to increase arts learning for schoolchildren statewide. During her 20-year plus career, Eng has worked with more than 500 non-profit organizations, gaining an understanding of organizations across multiple fields, including the arts, education, renewable energy, and human rights in the U.S. and internationally. Her 15 years of development experience includes serving as Director of Development at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Foundation and Orchestra of St. Luke's in New York. Moy Eng holds degrees from New York University (M.A., Arts Administration) and Rutgers University (B.A., Theater Arts). A trained classical singer, Eng works actively as a songwriter and vocalist, performing at Yoshi’s, San Jose Jazz Festival and area clubs. |

Susan Mcinnis, Associate Director
Ms. Mcinnis completed work for an MA in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University and has a BA in Finance and Accounting from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. She has more than 12 years of extensive finance and accounting experience working at Wells Fargo Bank, Boole & Babbage (acquired by BMC Software), and Autodesk. Additionally, she has four years of nonprofit experience, including Director of Finance and Administration with Enterprise for High School Students in San Francisco and Project Manager of the Up On Top After School Program. At CSMA, Ms. Mcinnis is responsible for all accounting and financial management. |

Lisa James, Development Director
Lisa James’ Bay Area experience includes five years at the San Francisco Opera, the second largest opera company in the Americas. As director of development she crafted and drove a fundraising campaign resulting in $34 million of operating support during a period of financial restructuring. As vice president for advancement at the San Francisco Art Institute, her accomplishments included rebuilding of the organization’s development operation during a period of leadership transition, and management of the Institute’s 135th Anniversary Gala, doubling attendance and income. Most recently, James served as director of development at Opera Colorado. James also has significant development experience in other non-profit sectors, including senior-level positions at Earthjustice, the Arthritis Foundation, Northern California Chapter, and Johnson & Wales University, Denver Campus. Ms. James holds a Master of Arts in Business, Arts Administration, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science, from the University of Denver. Throughout her career James has been an active presenter, panelist and site evaluator for arts organizations, serving on panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and regional arts foundations and federations. As a speaker, she has been a presenter at the Soros Foundation Eastern Europe Arts Management Seminar and at national and regional arts conferences in Canada and the U.S. James is currently on the national board of directors of Breast Cancer Action, where she serves as a member of the executive and finance committees and was development committee chair in 2009. |

Karen Kwan, Institutional Gifts Officer
Karen Kwan holds a B. A. in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism and a Minor in Art History from Santa Clara University.Karen is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) who specializes in institutional giving and grants management. She has served as an independent grant writing consultant and development staff at various non-profit arts organizations in Silicon Valley, including San Jose Repertory Theatre, Bay Area Glass Institute, Palo Alto Art Center, Dimension Performing Arts and California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and raised over $6.5 million in the past eight years. Karen joined Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) in May of 2010 as its Institutional Gifts Officer. A dedicated advocate for the arts, Karen has served on the Arts Council Silicon Valley’s Collaborative Arts Marketing Partnership Steering Committee (2002-03), the Advisory Board at Santa Clara University’s de Saisset Museum as Board Member and later as Board President (2002-2005), and the Advisory Board at Silicon Valley Open Studios (2002-05). Karen has lent her expertise on multiple grant review panels including: Arts Council Silicon Valley’s (ACSV) Organizational Enhancement Fund (2006); ACSV’s Community Arts Fund (2010); San Francisco Arts Commission Cultural Equity Grant (2010); Creative Arts Fund’s NextGen Innovation Grant Program (2011). At the 2007 San Francisco Fundraising Summit, Karen was one of four professional grant writers who led the “Writing Successful Grant Proposals” workshop. Karen is also a founding steering committee member of genARTS (2007-present)—Arts Council Silicon Valley’s Emerging Arts Leaders Initiative—and serves as mentorship program chair. Karen has been an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professional since 2006. From 2007-2010, she served as a mentor in the mentorship program and a planning committee member for the National Philanthropy Day. She was chosen as the 2009 Chamberlain Scholar and represented the Silicon Valley Chapter at the AFP International Conference in New Orleans. Her service to the AFP Silicon Valley Chapter Board of Directors includes the following elected roles: Vice President-Elect of Diversity (2009), Vice President of Diversity (2010), Vice President of Programs (2011), and Vice President-Elect of Marketing (2012). Williams has applied his wide range of skills in diverse activities ranging from music licensing to the Hollywood film industry to blood donor career workshops. Equally comfortable with both traditional and non-traditional media, he is an advocate for using social media as a marketing and communications tool. Williams holds a BA in Geography from California State University, and has taken courses at several universities, including Wisconsin, Western Washington, and San Jose State. Ina Johnson, Graphic Designer
Ms. Johnson graduated from the University of Memphis with a BFA in ceramics and completed a teacher certification program in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin. She studied graphic design and illustration at the California College of Art and worked for over 10 years in the high-tech industry as a graphic artist. She left in 1999 to teach in CSMA’s Art4Schools program. She’s currently the staff graphic designer overseeing all printed matter and advertising collateral for the school. In addition to teaching and designing, Ms. Johnson is also a student of music and has been taking private guitar lessons at CSMA since 2004. |

Mary Holmes, Music School Director
Ms. Holmes holds a Master of Music In Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from the University of Hawaii. She has a 25-year history of teaching private, high school, and college voice lessons, as well as performing professionally in opera and musical theatre roles. Prior to making the transition to administrative positions, she also taught music in the classroom for 12 years at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She brings to CSMA her expertise as a music education leader with significant experience in creating partnerships and developing comprehensive, sustainable programs and curriculum for music learners, including integrated music clinics, summer workshops, teacher training seminars, and outreach at a variety of national and local conventions, fairs and festivals. Most recently, Holmes was the Director of Education Outreach and Program Services for McNally Smith College of Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota. |

Nicholas Isaacs, Music School Director, Emeritus
Music School Director Emeritus Nicholas Isaacs earned an MA in Mediaeval History with additional studies in English and Philosophy from St. Andrews University, Scotland where he was also awarded the Annual Sawyer Memorial Prize for Music. He later gained his Performance Diploma from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London; while in London he studied piano with Edith Vogel and as a vocal accompanist participated in master classes with Gerald Moore and Pierre Bernac. Awarded a full scholarship through the English-Speaking Union for graduate studies in USA, he completed his Masters and Doctoral degrees in harpsichord and piano performance in 1986 at Stanford University, where he also won the 1980 University concerto competition. Dr. Isaacs joined CSMA in 1985. As CSMA’s first full-time Music School Director, he developed the Music School program from a fledgling private lesson group of 100 students to its present enrollment of approximately 1200. With the creation of free classes for private lesson students (Core Curriculum), support and special interest classes for enrichment (Workshop Weeks) and partnership with Stanford University Lively Arts and CSMA Faculty to present significant concert offerings free to the community, he assembled a music curriculum that rivals many colleges in its scope and quality, matching the outstanding new Finn Center facility and supporting CSMA’s philosophy of “Arts for All.” Following his retirement in 2010 on his 25th anniversary as Music Director, he continues to teach piano, perform in Tateuchi Hall concert series and participate in the ongoing planning of CSMA’s music programs. |

Barbara Bernstein, Program Coordinator, Private Music Lessons
Barbara Bernstein handles all inquiries from prospective private lesson students. She conducts orientations that welcome new private music lesson families and students to CSMA. She also coordinates the student recital program. Before coming to CSMA, Barbara spent 20 years in the high tech world as a technical writer, editor, and software user interface designer. Her first career was library work, and she ran the library of the English Folk Dance & Song Society in London for three years. After returning from London, she worked as the Director of Research at the country's first information brokerage. Barbara has played many instruments over the years, including clarinet, guitar, piano, and Middle Eastern hand drums.
When she's not consumed by making the world a better place for young musicians, Barbara attends concerts of all kinds, plays the piano, and designs and makes too many necklaces. |

Amy received her Master of Music, Voice from the University of Texas, Austin, and her Bachelor of Music, Voice from Vanderbilt University. She has held lead and supporting roles with Opera Santa Barbara, West Bay Opera, Livermore Opera, Stockton Opera, Pocket Opera, and Townsend Opera Players. She has taught at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and the Myriad School of Music in San Mateo, in addition to teaching private voice lessons since 1999. |

Carrie Campbell, Program Coordinator, Finn Center Music Instruction
Carrie Campbell received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Georgia and earned her Master of Music from Yale University. Carrie grew up in Clemson, SC as part of a musical family. With two music professors as parents it’s no surprise that she started playing the piano at age 5 and the horn at age 11. After graduate school Carrie moved to San Francisco and immediately began freelancing with area orchestras and teaching throughout the Bay Area. Carrie has played with several award winning chamber ensembles including Elektra Winds and QUADRE-The Voice of Four Horns as well as keeping busy freelancing throughout the Bay Area. Carrie joined CSMA in 2003. She teaches Music Theory classes in addition to her role as Program Coordinator. |

Christine Catura, Tateuchi Hall Manager
Christine Catura has been with CSMA since 1999, initially serving as the Events and Outreach Coordinator. She currently manages all events in Tateuchi Hall.Christine is an accomplished jazz vocalist and has been featured and performed with artists such as Rickie Lee Jones, Deborah Harry and the Jazz Passengers, Mickey Hart and Pete Escovedo. She has toured with RCA Records jazz fusion group Opafire and is a returning favorite at the San Jose Jazz Festival. She has been performing and studying Jazz, Latin, Classical and Contemporary music for 30 years. Her unique improvisational style, personalized arrangements and smooth vocals to jazz and Latin standards has won Christine Catura the affection of audiences and critics alike. Linda Covello, Art School Director
Ms. Covello has a BA from UC Santa Cruz and an MFA from Parsons School of Design in New York City. She has extensive teaching experience in the Mountain View schools as well as at Sage Junior College, University of Oregon, and Albany Academy of Girls. She is also currently on the art faculty at the College of Notre Dame. Ms. Covello is a past recipient of a CA Arts Council Artist-in-Residence grant. Her extensive exhibition experience includes the Bowery Galley, New York, and the Outdoor Painters Project, UC Santa Cruz. Hector Armienta, Music4Schools Director
Hector Armienta has more than 10 years of non-profit experience as an arts educator, serving as a program director, curriculum specialist and teaching artist. He has held senior-level program positions at Music in Schools Today (MuST), San Francisco, and at Kollage Community School for the Arts, Redwood City. His professional experience also includes working with performing organizations, including Opera Cultura, San Jose, where he has been the artistic director/managing director since 2008. As a curriculum development consultant, Armienta has worked with school districts in Northern and Southern California, as well as with Arts Council Silicon Valley First Five Program, Young Audiences of the Bay Area and other organizations, to develop music programs for children.Armienta has a Masters of Music, Music Composition, from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles. He also is a Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative Graduate, San Jose, and attended the Arts Administration Training Program of Arts, Inc, Los Angeles. Her extensive exhibition experience includes the Bowery Galley, New York, and the Outdoor Painters Project, UC Santa Cruz. Ms. Covello has worked for CSMA for more than a decade, overseeing the in-school Art4Schools program as well as the on-site visual arts classes and Mohr Gallery.
Cal has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati and a BFA from Miami University in Ohio.
Jessica Eastburn has a BA in Liberal Studies from Portland State University and an MFA in Pictorial Art from San Jose State University. She coordinates the Onsite Art Program at CSMA and also teaches Drawing and Design. She maintains a studio practice with a focus in drawing and painting.
Celeyce Matthews has a BA in studio art, with a dual emphasis in textiles and art education, from San Francisco State University. She is currently in graduate school for Art History and Visual Culture at San Jose State University. Experience

Kyle received his BA from Stanford University. He has been teaching junior high and high school students drawing, painting and design skills since 2005.
Hector Armienta has more than 10 years of non-profit experience as an arts educator, serving as a program director, curriculum specialist and teaching artist. He has held senior-level program positions at Music in Schools Today (MuST), San Francisco, and at Kollage Community School for the Arts, Redwood City. His professional experience also includes working with performing organizations, including Opera Cultura, San Jose, where he has been the artistic director/managing director since 2008. As a curriculum development consultant, Armienta has worked with school districts in Northern and Southern California, as well as with Arts Council Silicon Valley First Five Program, Young Audiences of the Bay Area and other organizations, to develop music programs for children.
