Hector Armienta

Music4Schools Director

Hector Armienta has more than 10 years of non-profit experience as an arts educator, serving as a program director, curriculum specialist and teaching artist. He has held senior-level program positions at Music in Schools Today (MuST), San Francisco, and at Kollage Community School for the Arts, Redwood City. His professional experience also includes working with performing organizations, including Opera Cultura, San Jose, where he has been the artistic director/managing director since 2008. As a curriculum development consultant, Armienta has worked with school districts in Northern and Southern California, as well as with Arts Council Silicon Valley First Five Program, Young Audiences of the Bay Area and other organizations, to develop music programs for children.

Armienta has a Masters of Music, Music Composition, from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles. He also is a Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative Graduate, San Jose, and attended the Arts Administration Training Program of Arts, Inc, Los Angeles.

Throughout his career, Armienta has served as a panelist at numerous conferences and as a member of commissions and committees, including: San Francisco Arts Commission; Creative Entrepeneur Project; Opera America Conference, Houston, TX; Arts Council Silicon Valley; National Endowment for the Arts; Envision San Jose 2040; and others. He is also an active composer, whose work in opera and musical theater has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts and others.
