Moy EngCSMA Executive Director Moy Eng will be performing withBrenda Wong Aoki and Mark Izu in Kabuki Jazz Cabaret over Halloween weekend, October 28-30. The performancefeatures Brenda's singular storytelling supported by a seven-member traditional jazz and Asian American instrument ensemble and straight-ahead jazz music. Paul CartierArt faculty member Paul Cartier is having an Open Studio in San Francisco on October 6 & 7 - find out more here.

Paul also has had a video published on KQED's website. The video, titled "So Far," was the product of a workshop they sponsored for educators on video self-portraits.

Mary Helen WeinsteinFaculty member Mary Helen Weinstein will be peforming with the jazz ensemble String Thing at the Peninsula Stroke Association's fundraising event at CSMA on Sunday, October 2. String Thing is a unique ensemble that features two violins instead of horns. They play jazz standards and Latin music.

Cal CullenCSMA Arts4Schools Coordinator (and Embark Grant Recipient) Calcagno Cullen has a solo art show, My Heart is a Telephone, at the Million Fishes Gallery, 2501 Bryant Street, San Francisco, from September 17th – October 1st, 2011. Opening Reception is Saturday, September 17th, 7-10pm. Cal says, “If you can't make the opening, there is a closing reception on October 1st which includes a potluck; so bring your favorite dish and experience the installation Meals in a unique way.”

CSMA Music4Schools Director Hector Armienta is keeping pretty busy; not only with the start of the CSMA music programs in local schools, but with Opera Cultura as well.

  • Opera Cultura will be presenting a La Llorona son as part of the Day of the Dead event in San Jose on November 2nd.
  • On October 16th, Hector will serve as moderator at an Arts Action 21 event at the Mountain View Performing Arts Center
  • On November 5th, Hector, representing Opera Cultura, will be presenting at a Triton Museum fundraising event at the home of Alfario and Carmen Castellano
  • From January 16th - February 5th, Teatro Latea and Opera Cultura will be presenting La Llorona - A Musical Drama in New York. La Llorona is part of Hector's Ancient Waters Trilogy, which has had support from an NEA grant in artistic excellence, James Irvine Foundation, Castellano Family Foundation, and others.

Probe II by Ernest Regua, Acrylic & Oil on Canvas, 48"x36", 2010A painting by CSMA art instructor Ernest Regua is featured in an exhibition of works by five abstract artists at the University of San Francisco School of Law Rotunda Gallery during USF's Fall Semester.

The paintings will be on display through December 2011. The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, at 2199 Fulton Street (@Parker), San Francisco.

Landscape Painting by Robert Schick, El Monte Road Water Tower with Eucalyptus TreeCongratulations to CSMA art instructor Robert Schick. His landscape painting titled "El Monte Road Water Tower with Eucalyptus Tree" (right) won a first-place ribbon in the Los Altos History Museum's juried exhibition, “Heart's Delight.” The exhibition continues through September 25. Robert also has paintings on exhibit at Mountain View's Rengstorff House, as part of the 2011 August Arts Festival. Drop by both events to see Robert's fabulous work!

Moy EngCSMA's Executive Director Moy Eng will be a featured vocalist with The Clifford Lamb Trio at an engagement on Friday, July 22.  They'll be playing from 8-11 pm at the Oak City Grill in Menlo Park.  “I'm delighted to play with Clifford who is an elegant, gifted pianist and arranger, and thrills me with the imaginative, fresh ways in which he rearranges classical songs,” says Moy. “For a little more on Clifford, here is a link to hear some of his work:  http://One.Cliffordlamb.com/ and then you'll hear why I feel really fortunate to be playing with him.”

Sally TerrisGryphons Wild, a vocal duo consisting of CSMA faculty member Sally Terris and Ellen St. Thomas, will perform at the UC Botannical Gardens at Berkeley's Concerts in the Redwood Grove series on July 21.

Cal CullenCity of Eyes and Feet, a video by CSMA Art4Schools Program Coordinator Cal Cullen, was featured during the TEDxSF talks at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Saturday, June 4th.  The theme for the talks was "ALIVE!  Maximum living as a human."

William DunnArt instructor William Dunn has watercolor paintings entered in two upcoming art shows. Ferry Building is his entry in the University Art Open Competition, and Palace of Fine Arts is entered in the National Watercolor Society Annual Show. Daniel WoodDaniel Wood's French Horn quartet QUADRE is performing atJim Kassis the International Horn Symposium with percussionist (& fellow faculty member) Jim Kassis on Wednesday, June 22. QUADRE then performs three concerts in Wisconsin as part of the Green Lakes Music Festival.

Music4Schools instructor Kyle Sofman is performing with the Peninsula Women's Chorus on Wednesday, June 29, at 8:00 pm at Stanford Memorial Church. The chorus will be singing a selection of their 2010-2011 season repertoire prior to their European Tour. No admission charge, all are welcome!

Daniel Steinberg World Harmony Chorus instructor Daniel Steinberg will be performing with Doris Williams and Les Campagnards at Angelica's Bell Theater and Bistro in Redwood City on July 14, 8:00 pm. The French Horn quartet Quadre, including CSMA faculty member Daniel Wood, will perform in a concert on Thursday, Daniel Wood May 12 at 7:30 pm to celebrate the release of their fourth CD titled Our Time. The other members of Quadre are Amy Jo Rhine, Lydia Van Dreel, and Nathan Pawelek.

The concert will be held at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, and will feature guest artists Elizabeth Weigle (soprano) and CSMA faculty member Jim Kassis (percussion).
