our students adult
Adults report that studying music and art improves their quality of life as well as community involvement and connections. Arts involvement also helps workers thrive in what Alan Greenspan calls the new “Economy of Ideas” by strengthening:
- critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative teamwork skills,
- ceativity, technical abilities and sense of craftsmanship,
- appreciation for diversity,
- playfulness and ability to age with a positive self-concept.
Adults and seniors who participate in art and music classes at CSMA not only find a rewarding creative outlet but often make friends and build a rewarding social environment. As Terry, World Harmony Chorus member, says about singing at CSMA: “If there was any kind of problem I was worrying about during the day, I forget it.”
Meet a few of CSMA’s adult students:
- Connie & Tom: exploring what they can do with their voices.
- Alexandra: College communications major who “grew up” at CSMA.
- Jay: appreciates that “there’s always a cool art exhibit in the lobby.”

And as Terry says, “Remember – just have fun!”
