Private Lesson Student & Parent

printable version

Jay K. has been part of the CSMA community for over a decade, both as a guitar and piano student and as the parent of children who took private violin, piano and viola lessons from CSMA’s talented music instructors.

Jay chose CSMA because of “the extremely high-qualified faculty and the wonderful facilities.” In addition to taking private music lessons, he also enjoys the many free concerts held in CSMA’s Tateuchi concert hall as well as other activities on campus, noting that “there’s always a cool art exhibit in the lobby.”

CSMA’s private music lessons allow students of all ages, aptitudes, and ambitions to develop their love of music and technical musicianship with a choice of 30 instruments. Taught year-round by over 100 professional musicians and educators, many of whom are multi-lingual, students can choose to focus on classical, contemporary, jazz or popular styles. Tuition includes a core curriculum of additional training in theory, composition, new media and ensemble performance, as well as access to workshop weeks featuring special sessions and classes with guest artists. Recitals provide an invaluable opportunity for students to share what they’ve learned and gain confidence in front of a supportive audience of family and friends.

Jay’s son and daughter are now in college, and music continues to be an important part of both of their lives. Jay’s daughter, in fact, often performs at “open microphone” and other music sessions in Southern California. Jay appreciates that CSMA’s individualized lesson approach nurtured and encouraged a lifelong of music for both of his children, and continues to embody this himself with ongoing instrument instruction and a recent addition private voice lessons to his musical portfolio.

Jay considers CSMA to be a success story for his entire family. “I often speak highly of the school to my friends and acquaintance,” he says, noting that financial aid may be available to low income students who would like to study at CSMA. “I am a big fan of the place; in my opinion, it’s just great.”

“Life without music is unimaginable!”
