Adventures in Art Preschool Student

printable version

Steven G. is a precocious 3 year-old. He loves to paint, and to get messy at school! Right now, Steven is clear that “glitter – glitter all over!” is his very favorite thing. He is especially proud of his 2-color paint-glob monsters, which are also covered with… glitter!

Adventures in Art is Steven’s first formal class, and his mother, Jessica, reports that he loves coming to CSMA. Although he was a little worried at his first class, as many children at the preschool stage can be, he could hardly wait to come back the second time: “In a few minutes, I’m going to be really happy!”

Adventures in Art allows children and their parent or adult caregiver to share special times experiencing the visual arts using age-appropriate themes. There is no “wrong way” to do anything in class, AND the mess stays here – a benefit that Steven’s mom especially appreciates!

Jessica values the “creativity and freedom that the classes allow,” and sees this as an important part of her child’s preschool development. “He’s enjoyed watching how the paint works and learning to create things himself.” His teacher is “very encouraging, and makes every child think that it’s OK for them to do whatever they’re doing. There is no right or wrong, and this makes the children feel good.”

Adventures in Art also provides an opportunity for Steven to have his own special time to do something with mom “where he is the big boy.” He even got to show off “his own school” to his older brother and dad one week so everybody in the family could experience what he is doing.

What does “arts4all” at CSMA mean to Steven and Jessica? “Art isn’t limited.” Anybody who is interested in art, regardless of age or ability, should be able to participate.

Jessica is very happy about Steven’s time with Adventures in Art, “I’m glad we experienced it. I wish we could do it all of the time.”
