| Tomiko Hamai earned her Master in Music in Flute Performance from the University of Southern California and her BS/BA in Chemistry and Music from the University of Puget Sound. Tomiko is a member of Phi Kappa Lambda, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi honors societies. She has studied flute with Gary Woodward, Jim Walker, Karla Flygare, and Karen Van Dyke. She has also performed in master classes with Jeanne Baxtresser, Watfrid Kujala, Laurel Zucker, Anne Zenter, Isobel Chapuis-Starr, Todea Coelho, and Jill Felber. |

Tomiko has worked as a faculty assistant at Northern California Flute Camp. Her orchestral experience includes principal flute in the USC Symphony, USC Chamber Orchestra, USC Opera Orchestra, USC Wind Symphony, Korean American Philharmonic, Idyllwild Academy Orchestra, UPS Symphony, UPS Wind Ensemble, UPS Opera Orchestra, and San Jose Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Tomiko has given solo concerto performances with UPS Symphony and UPS String Orchestra. She has worked as a freelance musician in the Bay Area and the Los Angeles area. |

| Tomiko has been a member of the CSMA Music Faculty since 2004. Tomiko is also on the In-School music faculty as band director for elementary and middle schools in Mountain View and Menlo Park. |
| Teaching Philosophy and Approach |
| Tomiko emphasizes building the fundamentals of good tone, scales, and rhythm as a foundation for making great music. She enjoys teaching students of all ability levels as long as they are willing to practice and are enthusiastic about learning. |

| Tomiko was born in the Bay Area and grew up attending Palo Alto public schools. She has since lived in Seattle and Los Angeles before returning to Palo Alto. In addition to music, Tomiko enjoys hiking and traveling. |
