Dr. Nicholas Isaacs

Education
Nicholas Isaacs was born in London. His first studies were at St. Andrew's University in Scotland where he completed a Master's Degree in Medieval History. He gained his Performer's Diploma at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, studying with Edith Vogel, Gerald Moore, and other eminent musicians. He obtained his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano at Stanford University, where he studied with Adolph Baller.
Performing and Teaching Experience
Dr. Isaacs was Professor of Music at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales, where he taught piano, chamber music, music history and analysis, theory, aesthetics, directed both choir and orchestra, and coordinated extensive curriculum development for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Currently he is active as a teacher, writer, and lecturer, solo and chamber pianist, accompanist, clinician, and competition judge. He is also a faculty member of Santa Clara University, a pianist and organist at Bethany Lutheran Church in Menlo Park, and maintains a private studio at his home in Fremont.

Dr. Isaacs has performed frequently in concert, for radio and TV, and in festivals and recital series throughout Britain and the USA. The recipient of an English-Speaking Union Fellowship for doctoral music studies and an Arts Recognition Award from CAPA for services to community music in the Mid-Peninsula, he was also listed in the International Who's Who publications for Music and for Education.
At CSMA
Dr. Isaacs is the Music Director at CSMA, where he has worked for over 20 years.
Teaching Philosophy and Approach
Dr. Isaacs believes it is important to "learn about life through music, and vice versa. Unite fun and discipline, spontaneity and method, feeling and knowledge, kids and adults."
Personal
He is particularly interested in mainstream classical and romantic music, two-piano literature, piano trios, and solo voice recital repertory.
