In the schools art and music programs
The Community School of Music and Arts serves more than 7,500 children (Gr. K-8) annually through its Art4Schools and Music4Schools programs.
Since 1981, these programs, offered as part of the curriculum day at local public and private schools, have engaged youth through in-depth, sequential lessons. Because these programs coordinate with the classroom curriculum, the visual and performing arts become an integral, enriching part of a child's education. Children receive weekly hands-on classes and interactive concerts at their school. Taught by CSMA's faculty of professional arts and music educators, these programs stimulate critical thinking, curiosity and creativity, as well as develop cultural understanding. Arts in Action and Music in the Schools are made possible through the collaborative efforts of CSMA's donors and sponsors, the City of Mountain View, local school districts, schools and parent organizations. These programs are offered on a contractual basis to local school districts and to individual public and private schools.
High School Programs at Finn Center
Since 2004, CSMA has offered its arts-in-the-schools programs on site at Finn Center to students from Summit Preparatory Charter High School (Redwood City). For two months each year, students come to CSMA for daily, intensive music and arts instruction taught by CSMA faculty. These classes fulfill their fine arts graduation requirements for college admission.
